On Politics

I suppose there are those who would try to read into my politics from reading this. So I will say this: Above all, I consider myself a pragmatist. A bemused, skeptical spectator. I'm skeptical of things the Bush administration does, just as I was skeptical of Clinton, just as I'm skeptical of Mayor Mumbles.

Politics at all levels is an act of self-preservation. Those in power do what is required to stay in power. Sometimes this involves doing what's best for the many. Sometimes it involves what's best for a few. The job of the journalist (or anyone, in a democracy) is to observe and sort those actions out, to discover who benefits and why.
